Allele Launches Fluorescent Protein mWasabi as a Replacement for Commonly Used EGFP …[04/07/08]

Allele Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals in San Diego announced the launch of their latest addition to their line of fluorescent proteins; mWasabi, a monomeric green fluorescent protein derived from mTFP1. This product launch coincided with the recent publication of mWasabi related research in the March 6 th , 2008 edition of BMC Biology.

Similar to All ele ustrious mTFP1, a blue fluorescent protein, mWasabi is suitable for a wide array of biomedical research applications. mWasabi is nearly twice as bright as traditional EGFP or other variants, with a much smaller UV excitation. Additionally, Allele's entire line of fluorescent proteins is extremely photostable, and since they are true monomers, will not give rise to unwanted aggregation or non-specific interactions.

These properties allow mWasabi to work significantly better in multiple-labeling applications than other GFPs, while concurrently offering superior performance in fusion constructs.

Dr. Jiwu Wang, CEO of Allele Biotech, has said of mWasabi, “This will be a very attractive choice for companies and researchers wanting to replace GFP in their assays with a less expensive, more enhanced alternative. mWasabi holds significant potential for commercial sublicensing opportunities. With the advent of this new protein line, along with industry-leading technical support, Allele has established itself has one of the leading marketers of fluorescent proteins today.”
