BasoTest

Basophil Degranulation

A complete reagent kit for the quantitative determination of basophilic degranulation in whole blood using Flow Cytometry.   Basophils contain many granules, each with a number of active substances that trigger allergic reactions when exposed to specific compounds.   Whole blood is incubated with supplied allergens and intracellular materials released from degranulation are measured to characterize cellular hypersensitivity.

 Indications

There are a number of tests for determining allergic reactions, inluding the 'skin patch test,' 'skin prick test,' and the 'intradermal test.'  These tests can all indicate hypersensitivity, but they do not offer a solution to quantify the level of hypersisitivity.  The BasoTest diagnostic kit can indicate and quantify hypersensitivity for a number of conditions, including:

  • Diagnosis of specific food allergies
  • Diagnosis of allergies to hymenopteran venom
  • Diagnosis of pollen allergies
  • Monitoring anti inflammatory drug tolerance and progress, quantifying the success of immunotherapy

Advantages

  • A highly sensitive test conducted on whole blood
  • Can be performed in 2 hours
  • Standard 'skin prick test' stimulants can be incorporated
  • Excellent correlation with histamine release assays
  • Measures in vivo basophil activation
  • A complete reagent kit containing all the necessary buffers and reagents for 20 or 100 patient samples.
