Platelet Associated Immunoglobulin

A complete reagent kit for the quantitiative determination of platelet associated immunoglobulin in whole blood using Flow Cytometry. Thromobocytes, or platelets, are responsible for coagulation to stop bleeding; reduced platelet counts can lead to a number of complications. Thromobocytes are stained with labled antibodies against human immunoglobulins and their fluorescence is measured to characterize thrombocytic activity.

Thrombocytopenia, or low platelet count, can severley affect the body's clotting ability, leading to excessive bruising or bleeding.  In some cases severe thrombocytopenia can lead to internal bleeding.  A number of conditions can lead to this disorder, including:

  • Leukemia
  • Hepatitis C
  • AIDS/HIV and most immunosuppresant diseases
  • Vitamin deficiencies
  • Various medications
  • Can be used to diagnoze Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), the most common acquired thrombocytopenia.

  • The determination of antibodies against thrombocytes allows for differentiation between immune and non-immune thrombocytopenia
  • Allows for both total immunoglobulin and class immunoglobulin (IgA, IgM, IgG) quantification.
